The Power of Being a Do-er

Jun 24, 2024

Are you a "do-er"?

The ability to take decisive action can be the difference between success and stagnation. This week, I'm taking a closer look into what it means to be a do-er – someone who not only plans but takes concrete steps toward their goals. Understanding this mindset and embodying it can transform your business.

What It Means to Be a Do-er

A do-er is someone who:

  • Acts on Ideas: Instead of just brainstorming, they implement their ideas.
  • Faces Challenges Head-On: They don’t shy away from difficulties but tackle them directly.
  • Seeks Continuous Improvement: They are always looking for ways to improve and grow.

Being a do-er means you’re constantly in motion, learning from every experience, and making tangible progress towards your goals. This proactive approach can significantly boost your business’s success.

Why Inaction is a Disservice to Your Business

Investing in coaching or a business program is a valuable step towards growth. However, if you don't act on the insights and strategies you gain, you’re doing a disservice to yourself and your business. Here’s why:

  • Wasted Resources: Time and money spent on coaching are valuable resources. Not acting means these resources aren’t used to their full potential.
  • Missed Opportunities: Without action, opportunities for growth, improvement, and innovation pass by unnoticed.
  • Stagnation: Businesses thrive on progress. Inaction leads to stagnation, making it harder to stay competitive and relevant.

Over the past 10 months of coaching small business owners, I have witnessed both types of entrepreneurs and I have also witnessed DRASTICALLY different results.  There is a clear correlation between mindset, taking action and business growth/success.

Breaking Through Inaction

  1. Set Clear, Achievable Goals:

    • Break down your larger business objectives into smaller, manageable tasks.
    • Set specific deadlines for each task to create a sense of urgency and accountability.
  2. Prioritize and Focus:

    • Identify the most critical tasks that will have the biggest impact on your business.
    • Use techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize effectively, focusing on what’s important rather than just urgent.
  3. Create a Routine:

    • Develop a daily or weekly routine that includes dedicated time for working on your business goals.
    • Consistency is key. Regular, focused effort leads to significant progress over time.
  4. Adopt a Growth Mindset:

    • Embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and grow rather than as obstacles.
    • Focus on effort and perseverance rather than innate ability. Believe that you can improve with practice and hard work.
    • Surround yourself with positive influences and seek out mentors who exemplify the do-er mentality.
Being a do-er is about more than just getting things done; it’s about taking intentional, meaningful actions that drive your business forward. Don’t let fear, perfectionism, or overwhelm hold you back. By setting clear goals, prioritizing effectively, and establishing a consistent routine, you can break through inaction and become the proactive force your business needs.  I always say to myself, "What is the harm in trying something new?"
