The Time-Saving Magic of Food Prepping for Busy Entrepreneurs

Dec 15, 2023

As small business owners, we're no strangers to the hustle. The never-ending to-do list, the meetings that could have been emails, and the constant battle against the clock. But what if I told you there's a secret time-management weapon waiting for you, right in your kitchen? Food prepping!  I'm a huge fan!   Let's chat more about how it give you hours in your week.

Why Food Prep?

Imagine this: It's lunchtime, you're in the middle of a project, and you're starving. You thought about throwing a few things together this morning, but you ran out of time.  So now what are your options?  Don't eat?  Grab fast food? This is where food prepping steps in to save your day—and your health.

Food prepping isn't just about eating right; it's about freeing up precious time that you can invest back into your business or yourself. It's about minimizing decision fatigue ("What's for lunch today?"), reducing stress, and yes, it's also about keeping you fueled with the good stuff.

Step 1: The Game Plan

Start with a plan. What proteins and carbs can you prepare in bulk that will last you through the week? Think versatile – grilled chicken, roasted veggies, brown rice, or quinoa. These can be the base for various meals, from salads to stir-fries.  I am a creature of habit.  Chicken and rice are my go-to's, but nix it up!  If you like canned tuna, you don't even have to prep.  One of my past favorites was tuna on rice cakes with hummus.  Actually, I might need to reintroduce this one in to my rotation.

Step 2: The Shopping List

With your plan in hand, create a shopping list. Notice howI said, plan?  You need to spend time once or twice a week to plan your meals out.  It should only take a few minutes and then you can add your groceries to your list.  PS- I love grocery shopping apps!  Stick to the outer aisles of the grocery store for fresh produce and proteins. Remember, the goal is to make your week easier, so if pre-chopped veggies or pre-marinated meats save you time and you can afford it, go for it!

Step 3: The Prep Work

Set aside 1-2 hours, twice a week, for your food prep. Cook your chosen proteins and carbs, and while they're cooking, you can wash and chop your veggies. Once everything is cooked, let it cool, then divide it into containers. Voila! You've got a fridge full of meal components ready to go.

Step 4: Mix and Match

Here's where the fun begins. With your prepped ingredients, you can create an array of meals on the fly. Toss some chicken and veggies over rice for a quick lunch, over lettuce with an easy dressing for a salad or throw them into a wrap for another grab-and-go option.

Step 5: The Ripple Effect

As you get into the groove of food prepping, you'll notice something – you're not just saving time on meal preparation. You're cutting down on cleaning time, reducing how often you need to shop, and you're probably saving money, too, by not opting for that last-minute takeout.

The Bottom Line

For us entrepreneurs, time is currency, and food prepping is like investing in a time-saving bond that pays dividends throughout the week. It’s a strategy that goes beyond the kitchen; it's a lifestyle choice that says, "I value my time, and I choose to spend it on what matters most."

I challenge you! Give food prepping a try. Your future, less-stressed self will thank you for those extra minutes!

Until next time 🖤
